With International Foundation Diploma

The IFY programme in Engineering & Technology is a specialised course designed to support international students to progress to studying: Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computing or Software Engineering.

Programme Purpose

We offer an intensive (one Academic Year) course: The The International Foundation Diploma in Engineering & Technology, the purpose of which is to prepare overseas students for entry to a engineering degree programme at a European Universities.

Who is the Course for?

  • Have completed their local high school qualification (equivalent to Irish Leaving Certificate)
  • Have completed high school qualification or equivalent, but do not meet the entry requirements for university admission.
  • Need to improve their English language before studying at a European University.

Programme Content

Students studying the IFY Engineering & Technology programme will cover four main academic subjects:

  • Foundation Mathematics
  • Further Mathematics
  • English Language Skills
  • English for Academic Purposes
  • Learning & Study Skills
  • Cultural Studies
  • IT & Communication Skills
  • Chemistry (Engineering)
  • Physics (Engineering)
  • Economics (Business)

Students will also gain essential skills, such as:

In order to facilitate students and meet their needs we have developed three The International Foundation Diploma Programme options:

  • IFY in Engineering & Technology: This is an alternative route to study Engineering & Technology and progress on to an EU university.
  • Pre-IFY Studies: This option is for students who have not met the IELTS 4.5 entry requirement for the IFY and need to prepare beforehand in order to do so.
  • Advanced Entry to University: This is for students who have met the entry requirements for an EU university. Need to assess their university options and be provided with some assistance in the entry application
